Gila Cliff Dwellings: History and culture come alive when you visit this national monument, which gives visitors a view into the world of a cave-dwelling people who lived in this region over 700 years ago. You can participate in a guided tour or explore the cliff dwellings on your own. And, if one day just isn’t enough, camping is available all year in the surrounding Gila National Forest.

Pickamania!This family-friendly music festival, produced every September by the Mimbres Region Arts Council, takes place at Gough Park in historic downtown Silver City. It’s a celebration of American music, with bluegrass, folk, Americana, and roots. You can also check out the Silver City Blues Festival, which takes place every May.

Silver City Clay Festival: Billed as the signature event for the Silver City Arts and Cultural District, this festival features tile, pottery, adobe, and natural building processes. This festival provides a variety of wonderful activities for the whole family, from workshops on using various clay mediums to panel discussions, exhibits, children’s activities, and much more.

The Catwalk: Lined with a plank-board walking trail that winds along the historic 1890s mining waterway in Whitewater Canyon, this one-mile hike is a beautiful and fascinating way to discover the geological beauty of the region. The Catwalk Recreation area, which also boasts a scenic picnic spot, is open from sunrise to sunset, with a $3.00-per-vehicle parking lot.

Western New Mexico University Museum: Easy access to this incredible museum is just one of the many advantages of having a local university. Housed right on campus, the museum provides a captivating look at southwest New Mexico heritage, boasting a huge collection of Mimbres pottery, basketry, and other artifacts. Some other highlights of the museum include antique Navajo rugs, historic photographs of Silver City and the surrounding areas, and traveling exhibits.
